My phone has a new exciting bug in ios 18.2. In the setup screen you get immediately after update completes, the phone instructs you to "swipe up to get started." Sadly, swiping up does nothing for me. Had to go into the app switcher and force close the app "Setup" which was there.

Clean my mac, previously a nice and accessible tool, got a fabulous new redesign. You all know where this is going, right? SO I emailed the developer about the now completely broken accessibility. Got An AI immediately thanking me for reaching out and asking if I could provide more details about the issue I am having. So I gave it my initial message containing a few examples and expectation. Now, about a month later, the same AI reached out, summarised our conversation and asked, how was the support? So now I have one less app on my mac. Its definitely cleaner.

I've tried music as my work backround for a long time. My newest favorite are nature sounds playlists. Shuffling them gives me constant glimpses into a blissful world where the streams flow in peace, rain falls and birds sing. Sort of "there is still some hope" vibe.

Why people are not replicating the screen reader experience of native elements in their uselessly custom JS widgets is beyond me. ANyway, just spotted this lovely chatty fake box in the wild. "option <Option_name> focused, 1 of 12. 12 results available. Use Up and Down to choose options, press Enter to select the currently focused option, press Escape to exit the menu, press Tab to select the option and exit the menu." Obviously all of this gets announced for every press in the list of options.

it was a single Mastodon post by @benteh, a little a year ago, who was looking for an accessibility specialist to talk to about making web and mobile apps more accessible. I swear that smoke alarms have a programmed time when to start alerting for low battery. The tiny, but piercing PIP! every 10 seconds has always started around 2 or 3 AM for me. Anyway, after one started again a few nights ago, I took the little bugger down and replaced it with a smart one, completing the migration to smart smoke alarms in our house. So if smoke would appear, we all get phone notifications and the room name where the alert is is called out on all our sonos speakers at home.

This weekend, I automated a couple of our radiators, to balance the heating.in less used rooms. On the bonus side, I can twist radiator valves from my phone now. Its too early to say anything, but the Danfoss Ally seems to be a quite well featured option.

Wonderful. Had to go the long way today to pay for a service, because Paypal is using H Captcha when logging in, which offers me to install an accessibility cookie through a link, which does fail to open. Good on them making things more complicated than they should. ALso, I am not going to use a cookie to announce to everyone that I am a person needing accessibility accomodations.

Customer service chats are so confusing in their user experiences. How long do I have to wait? How do I bypass the bot? what happens if I accidentally refresh or close the tab with the chat? Never felt good using them.

because windows 11 is windows 11, it simply refuses to open up start menu sometimes. Just had to open up ms word by typing winword.exe in the run dialog. Glad that at list this still works.
