I'm sicked at this, but it really does appear that Trump's threat to Hamas with "all hell to pay" has worked to finalize a ceasefire to this horrible conflict, though it's not over by any means.
I also think that Trump was likely able to get Bibi to move as well with a promise of something later down the line.
I'm also reading that cases brought against universities around antisemitism on campus are being resolved with settlements that include stronger protections for Jewish students.
Trump is dangerous, and the US is far worse off for him. At the same time, I can't deny that a ceasefire or a reduction of antisemitism on university campuses is a good thing.
I will not move to the US because of Trump, and at the same time I won't deny myself being able to celebrate some small positives.

@serge Yeah. There are an awful lot of people hopping around saying "Biden did this! Biden gets credit!" and his team certainly did the legwork, but let's not pretend that the impending threat of Trump's absolute indifference to humanity wasn't a nice, hot fire under some butts here.
Same story with the campuses. I'll take all the small wins.

@serge What evidence is there to support this?

This is sillyness, and so I'll give you a single reply.
The evidence is that Biden was not able to get a long lasting ceasefire of this magnitude, and that this was signed just days before Trump.
We also know Trump and Bibi are on "good terms". Maybe they bond over being criminals, who knows...
But Trump was able to get the Abraham Accords signed, and now this ceasefire.
Is that evidence that will satisfy you? Perhaps not, but I'll take having some (not all!) of the hostages home, and having the war in Gaza over my own disgust for the actors involved.

"The evidence is that Biden was not able to get a long lasting ceasefire of this magnitude, and that this was signed just days before Trump."
So let me get this straight what you are offering me here as "evidence". Trump takes credit for the cease fire though he is not in power yet and Biden, who has negotiated over this for many months, doesn't, because he was "not able to get" it. Seriously?

Firstly, I told you to stop, and you haven't. That's harassment and yes, I will report you.
Secondly, I put in my post how sickening it is that Trump has made this happen, but I value lives over politics.
Thirdly, I left the US in large part because of Trump.
So now I'm going to report and block you. Your trolling and wishing harm on others will hopefully be stopped.

@serge I have my own moral predicament about Trump over Taiwan. Trump is probably just one of the few most evil in the world, and yet last time his evil interest happened to align with Taiwan's. It made me question myself and I was also disgusted that we handed Trump the credit. So I was happy that Biden stands with Taiwan. with Trump 2.0 my fear is Taiwan will see evil's favour is not dependable. As the evil himself has indicated.

I hear you.
Many, most Israelis are thrilled Trump is in office because Trump made some major changes that assisted Israel, first by acknowledging the Israeli capital is Jerusalem, and second by pushing the Abraham Accords.
They think he's a "friend to Israel" and I think we can't ignore the value of either other change, but I don't think we can rely on Trump.
On the domestic front, I'm extremely glad to see Trump supporting Jews and stopping antisemitism, but at the same time I know he fosters and supports antisemites, as well as hate against trans people and immigrants.

@serge I kinda feel the same way.
I realize that he's not a zero on every axis, but it's really frustrating.
I think the bigger frustration is that if Biden had shown that higher level of support, could he have achieved this?

@peribotsarah @serge Another way of understanding this is that Bibi delayed accepting what was essentially the same deal months ago, at least partially in order to force Biden into making decisions that would alienate a bloc of voters no matter how they were made, weaken him, and make Trump’s election more likely - because he knew that Trump in turn would be far more likely to greenlight far-right actions in the West Bank, and less likely to demand meaningful improvement in Palestinians’ lives.

A bit too far IMHO. Bibi doesn't control US elections and here are simpler explanations.

@serge @peribotsarah Agreed that there is a lot more going on here. The collapse of Hezbollah and decline of the Iranian axis also made this more palatable to Israelis - and Biden deserves a ton of credit for continued support of Israel’s military capacity that allowed those to happen.
