We thought it ugly

That fall we moved in the house

Its leaves didn’t fall

Even in the spring

We declared it must be dead

Shriveled leaves hung on

We took off a twig

To show our gardener friend

Should we chop it down?

She grew excited

Where is this growing, she said

This is from an oak
