I don't think these changes go far enough. I do appreciate that there are people that are more tolerant of errors in these summaries. I don't think people really understand what they're getting into when they turn notification summaries on, or even remember what they picked when 18.1 was released in October. Labeling them a beta, and saying that they "may contain errors" doesn't explain how Apple expects this to ever not be a beta and not contain errors

These summarization features require human feedback and intervention. Particularly for push notifications about news events, as we've seen. There is no option to report a summary is wrong and suggest an edit. Filing a Feedback as if every summarization error was a unique and addressable bug is not a solution for what is, in essence, a content moderation issue that requires human judgement. When you get into summaries of personal text messages and emails you get into thorny privacy concerns.

@joesteel So many ways this could be made better, all of which require more than just loading an LLM into the OS and hoping for the best

@jsnell It's wild that they chose to summarize every notification with this simple on-device LLM instead of filtering out spam notifications.
Don't forget to pay your FasTrak bill from that phone number in the Philippines. Maybe it's important.

@joesteel @jsnell I can't be bothered with it yet. They have been beating the "on device learning" drum for quite awhile now and given how hard it is to get the keyboard or Siri to do simple things I ask, I am not trusting that "intelligence" to tell me a single thing, let alone summarize.
