TechCrunch’s reporting vs the source they linked to that actually went and found a real source to report on.

TechCrunch’s article says 700M people joined, which is three orders of magnitude higher than their source’s source.

Implying that over twice the population of the US and 8% of humans on earth signed up for Xiaohongshu without taking a moment to check what you’re writing is just wild.

Later in the day I took another look at this. The editor and author is on mastodon and quickly confirmed they’ve updated it. So nice quick effort to correct from TC, well done!

@djcapelis hi this correction was fixed yesterday and notated. make sure you're seeing the current version of the page by refreshng. fingers had mind of their own typing M instead of K! somehow got missed by editing process too, which is rare! thx for flagging though
