@caseyliss I think if you've managed 20 you've probably already found it - I just believe it comes down to two people who get along, never get bored of each other, don't argue very often, always honest.
Also credit to my parents who I believe raised me with good values and respect whereas my wife's side of the family weren't nice people and I stood my ground to defy her parents and get her away from all the negativity.

@caseyliss getting olde and being funny!! Haha. Both are true, but I can’t take any credit.
Really it is all on her - she tolerates a lot of my nerd BS (buying computers and gadgets, etc) and she likes going to ball games. I can be moody and sullen and she seems to have me all figured out. She has also just been great at helping me thru some health issues - and rarely complains. I am lucky.
Again - she gets ALL the credit - I don’t tell her enough how lucky I am. People have asked for years how I landed her - wish I could say it was just my good looks but I do know better.

@caseyliss I fumbled my way thru almost 40 yrs in front of college classes making kids laugh - she must find my corny jokes and nerdy stories endearing. I have always figured if it wasn’t fun why do it, so even though I do carry some knowledge around it only works for me when I wrap it in humor - maybe she liked that - who knows.
Also - she once told me she tolerated my nerd habits because she always knew where I was - “you don’t drink or do drugs, you don’t smoke, you don’t gamble, you don’t chase women, you just blow money on gadgets - I always know exactly where you will be, sitting in front of a computer” - Tanya

@caseyliss I had a therapist who said that the secret to a long marriage is not getting divorced.
And while that seems obvious and flip, what she meant was if 2 ppl are committed to staying together they can work thru most things.
Also, the alternative to a < perfect marriage (they all are) is not a perfect marriage or a perfect single life, but another imperfect situation.
We’re great and happy, but had some bumps along the way.

@caseyliss thanks man! 🥳 someone already said it best, you’ve reached 20 years so you undoubtedly know the secret of what makes you and Erin work. But for us? Communicating and actively listening. The software version our relationship is probably at 4.0 at this point, we are SUCH different people from when we met as literal children. So, yeah, always checking in, always listening, always giving a genuine damn about each other & our shared life as a couple and, most importantly, as individuals.

@caseyliss congrats Erin & Casey! Paula & I are married 30 years in April, just over 31 years a serious item (as she calls it).
Our serious boyfriend/girlfriend day is now bitter sweet as it became the day Paula’s mum passed away a few years ago.
I also have no idea why Paula tolerates me & my antics. She’s become an endurance athlete widow at times. I think it’s because she knows that I love her & would be lost without her.
