๐Ÿ“ž Exciting new (open access!) article from Jacob Bruggeman comparing "telephone enthusiasts" in the UK and phone #phreaking in the US. He argues compellingly that each contributed to a global movement of telco hackers.

Love this note about the availability of documentation: "To anyone paying close attention, the electronic keys to the telephone systems of both countries were ready for the taking."

@kdriscoll interesting! From a brief skim there seem to be a few inaccuracies about the early days in the UK (eg enthusiasts were dialling long distances in the UK long before the introduction of STD, Atkinson is a great book but itโ€™s not the first that was easily available etc) but itโ€™s nice to see this side of the pond getting any attention at all!

Iโ€™ll give it a proper read later!
