I wish i could just love vscode and get rid of this burden of trying to make everything else behave like vscode instead
say what you will, there's a looot of reasons to not use vscode, but usability is NOT one of them.
the thing just works for 80% of anyone's needs and if you don't agree then you're just in denial.
I love emacs and i love vim and i hate vscode, but the editor i use the most at work is, and i think will remain, vscode.

@256k have you tried sublime? I would love to convince myself to use something lighter but it just never lets me down and does enough without the fluff.

@deianeira you're absolutely right. i keep forgetting about sublime! a while ago i wanted to take the time and set it up but i never got around to it.

@deianeira @256k VSCode plugins are written in JavaScript, so if you know JavaScript it's easy to extend VSCode. Sublime plugins, on the other hand, are written in Python. Despite my fondness for JavaScript, I use Sublime.
There is also Rob Pike's Acme editor. It's austere like Vim and Emacs yet has first-class mouse support.
