I paid a visit to Jaycar to pick up some more 100R resistors, some DC plugs and some cable so I can possibly recommission one of these boards.
One board could not be recovered. Dead as a doornail.
But there's the one I rescued yesterday, so I have 3 of the 4 dead boards recovered. That's ~AU$4000 saved on their own.
Now to test the spare RAM.

Hmm… correction, they were AU$719 a piece… everything else on that order is either repaired or has not yet failed. In 13 months, all that kit will have its 10th birthday.
The SSD on there… is currently running this Panasonic CF-53… Samsung were offering 10 year warranties back then. (Edit: invoice says 5 years… I guess I might've been thinking of the 850PRO. Either way, nearly a decade of service.)
I guess I should do a back-up in case there was a end-of-warranty data bomb waiting for me.

So I've re-installed the PSU into that node. I'll dig up a SSD tomorrow for it. Should have a 120GB one spare.
For now, I'll run tests on fixed node #2 and see how she fares.
I have 2 SO-DIMMs spare.

The second one has passed as well.
So I need a 12V 5A LDO to replace the one I accidentally ripped legs off years ago, a SSD for the second node, and I might se if I can get a 12v PSU better suited to the 1U server that has been sitting around unused for a couple of years now.

So, I scavenge a SSD, plug it in... lo and behold, this thing still has #Gentoo on it. This OS will be ancient. Also worth noting, one "tux" for each CPU core: don't boot this in a tuxedo!
