I never hear ppl talk about how, when dealing with going from sedentary/low activity lifestyles to being more active, you will probably notice a fair amount of strange types of pain & discomfort in like, DEEP skeletal muscles that you will feel like something is more wrong than it is bc you can't find any info about it unless you kind of know what you're trying to find.

@actuallyautistic when I started running a few years ago, I would get this soreness right above & below my collarbones & in my neck, & in a weird part of my ribs. I felt like I had a tummy ache, but not in my abdominals (well, not only there). I thought I was having a heart attack or sth, it felt very unusual & breathing was painful.
Then I realized... i've been breathing harder & faster than I had in my years (depression, disordered eating, etc). My BREATHING MUSCLES were sore!! 😱😅

@actuallyautistic now that I'm focusing more on lifting, i'm once again getting strange soreness in new places, such as... like, inside my hips? Not the front of my hips, but as if it's directly in the center on either side of my body.
I have been trying to correct my anterior pelvic tilt in hopes it will relieve some back pain & stabilize my core. That involves lengthening & toning the hip flexors, such as the psoas & iliacus, which connect your femur to YOUR SPINE, passing thru your pelvis.

@actuallyautistic i think many autists don't deal with pain very well, but we also have different ways of perceiving our bodies (the good & the bad). It's probably scary to try to exercise, experience pain in weird places that your trainer or youtube videos or whatever can't quite figure out, so they say "uh ask your doctor," your doctor says "idk what to say, nothing's wrong with you." So you might think there's something wrong with you & that you SHOULDN'T do exercise!! 🥲

@actuallyautistic I am often very aware of my heartbeat & blood pressure, but i've even had heart monitors to make sure there's no problems and.... there's no problems... but it makes exercising pretty easily overwhelming, with lots of sensory information from INSIDE my body becoming very obvious with increased exertion. In addition to the sensory input from OUTSIDE my body i'm always dealing with.
So... it's no wonder many autists don't like being active, if they're not sensory seeking types.

I recognise that hip sore feeling.

@anilmc @actuallyautistic yes, i've been doing boat position which incorporates that leg lift movement! In addition to deadlifts & squats which also hit hip flexion & extension. I'm also doing bellydance style hip rotations which hit a lot of lower core, not just rectus abdominis. It's intense! 🥵😅

@anilmc @actuallyautistic one should be doing that posterior pelvic tilt before nearly every core exercise to find a neutral pelvic position, it's already helping me deal with some of the pain from years of anterior pelvic tilt.
