There's a third party Mastodon app for Android which might be new to you, it's called Rodent and there's more info about it at:

➡️ https://mastodonrodent.app

There's also an official account you can follow at:

➡️ @rodentapp

It has some unusual features including browsing servers other than your own.

NEW PEOPLE: You don't have to use the official apps with Mastodon, in fact the third party apps are often much better than the official ones. More info at https://fedi.tips/which-apps-can-i-use-should-i-use-the-official-app-or-a-third-party-app

p.s. Just to make clear, this isn't meant to be promoting this app above others, I'm mainly just trying to get less known apps some visibility too. I'd never heard of Rodent before a couple of days ago.

If you have feedback on this app, let the app's maker know as they are in a position to do something with that info 🙂

In the spirit of that, it would be great if you paid some attention to Misskey, the other half of the Fediverse. lol

I was trying to cover Calckey/Firefish before it imploded. Waiting to see if there is some stability with Sharkey etc. (And I do have a Sharkey section on @FediGarden ).

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services @FediGarden@social.growyourown.services Sharkey is not something you should promote. - I am guessing you've missed a lot.

Their lead developer tricked the user base to donate 2,000 bucks for a server they said would be used for the project. It was instead used right away as a personal Minecraft Server. The "Join Sharkey" website was never brought back online. And 4 months afterward, the server was pulled (taken offline) and kept as their personal computer.

After claiming Sharkey was suddenly under "new" management, the other developers have relentlessly trolled anyone who has called foul. Wrongfully claimed you're anti-LGBTQ if backed into a corner. And several builds are Sharkey have been so unstable, they crashed people's servers.

I would recommend, you focus on Misskey, as opposed to focusing on another fork of Misskey. Or, if you want a fork, there is CherryPick which has been around longer than Sharkey, with more feature. They're just not as known, because most of their sites are in Japanese or Korean, and the development doesn't seek attention. That said, I still think Misskey, the source, should be your focus.

@FediTips Have y'all tried Openvibe yet? I haven't, but it claims you can connect both your Mastodon and Bluesky accounts for a unified feed. I'm interested to know people's opinions if they've tried it.

@Jedi_Bard

Thanks for the info, but I'm not providing support for Bluesky due to the dubious nature of their owners (https://social.growyourown.services/@FediTips/113364985280012085).

@FediTips @rodentapp My question is, when will it be available on F-Droid? I try never to force my FOSS teams to pay the Google tax.

Oof, that FOMO tracker is dangerous. It creates the problem it purports to solve.

I think I'll stick with Fedilab.

@FediTips @rodentapp

I gave this app a try for a few days. I want to read my feed in strictly chronological order but this app always refreshes to latest. Showstopper so no good for me. Other apps do this too. Am I weird in wanting to do this?

There are some bugs such as CW not working. There are limited configuration settings. I desperately miss an OLED theme.

The threaded view of replies is really good. So I'm sad not to use this app. I like the notification squeak and the yellow theme too!

@FediTips Thanks for giving it a try, really appreciated! We move slowly but steady, always trying new features to find new ways to interact with Mastodon.

@FediTips @rodentapp So to be clear, this app isn't available on F-Droid? That's a shame, I really prefer installing my apps from there.
