Yes, that's the sound of the battery in a smoke detector going flat just 2 years into its 10 year life span.
I do appreciate not having to change all the batteries every 6 months, but that is much cheaper than changing the whole device every 2 years.
I have 2 of the 4 to replace now. First one just started randomly going off (full alarm mode) at 3 in the morning.
Replacements ordered. It's supposedly a good brand, I've just been unlucky I guess

@Andrea Clipsal? One of my ten-year smoke detectors failed at about two years, with random activations at all hours. Would have bee within warranty but electrician bought them and I never saw the receipt.

@futzle emerald, not clipsal. But same, electrician bought and installed pre handover of house 2 years ago.
I thought about switching brands, but I like the master remote control concept, all the alternatives were rated similarly, and this way I only have to buy 2, not a pack of 5.
