Insofar as puberty blockers already have guidelines and restrictions in place to ensure that they are prescribed appropriately for all children who need them, there is no need to add further regulations on their use for trans children in particular. All children who need them - trans or otherwise - should have equal access regardless of where they live in Aotearoa New Zealand,

which means not restricting prescribers to a smaller subset of the doctors who can currently prescribe them.

More broadly, regardless of how anyone feels about the existence of trans people, all decisions about all medications should be between the patient and their doctor(s). The government and general public should have no part of the decision making process.

The fact that this question is being put forth for public consultation at all, suggests to me that you’re deliberately targeting a small, vulnerable group with discrimination now, to see if you can get away with normalising government interference on medical questions for other, larger groups later. Which is quite a surprise coming from a coalition government where at least a third of you purport to want more individual liberties and less government regulation.
