@djwtwo was in England over Christmas where 14 years of #Tory cuts and council budget squeezes have left many roads in a similar sorry state. Where does the blame lie in New England?

@wilpercy It's mostly the weather, really (lot of freeze-thaw cycles) at least for potholes like this one (which was on a highway off-ramp.) I think the state highway crews are actually pretty responsive to them when they're reported, but this time of year generates a lot of new ones.

@wilpercy The roads managed by the local cities and towns, though, are certainly impacted by highway departments that are funds-limited (often going back to not-terribly-well-thought-through tax reforms from erly '80s, at least here in MA.)
