Toot

There was a bit of discussion here this morning about Dutton's interview on AM this morning, here's a link. He was second up after the LA fires

I often tune out of this kind of thing but I wanted to hear what lines they'll be running given the election is getting closer, I still think 12 April

All pretty standard stuff, ridiculous they stole the NZ government slogan of "Back of Track" especially as NZ is a bit of a train wreck

Seems they are going to try and blame government spending, state and federal, for the cost of living crisis via it putting upward pressure on inflation and therefore interest rates

Strong appeals to small business and outer suburban voters

No surprise crime will be in play

No real substance in terms of policy at this stage so we'll see what they come up with

@HardBeingGreen tough argument, yes cost of lliving is bad, but the ALP gave you too much money, we won't do that.

@InsurgoFormica more so they are spending too much rather than they are giving it to you but hopefully still a hard one to sell given cuts mean reduced services and less infrastructure

@HardBeingGreen spending too much means electricity subsidies, tax cuts, child care wage increases.

He'll code it, but that's what he means.

@InsurgoFormica I don't think it means the tax cuts lol

The big one is the additional spending on the APS, they are already saying they'll cut it by 20%. Although that really just means re-outsouring the work and moving the spending to another line in the budget

@HardBeingGreen Everyone loves the idea of cutting the public service, then complain when it takes forever to get approvals or a response of any kind. 🙄 🤷‍♀️
