Turn 6 in our Diplomacy/Chainmail/OD&D game. The situation is tense in various locations on the map.
What can be done? Forge hitherto unthinkable alliances? Give in to the corrupting forces of Chaos? Flee and hide? Or attack desperately? There are portents of a major battle happening soon, while the true evil is still brooding and scheming ...
It's surprising how similar this game feels to The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. This wasn't my intention at all when I started the game. But apparently there's more implied setting in those old rules sets, than is usually perceived.

Four days into Turn 7, the map is expanding ...
I think by now we're applying every single rules bit from the original three booklets.

Managing in game time is a major concern in campaign games, as you all probably know from that infamous all caps quote in the DMG.
But here's OD&D's take (Vol III, p26):
"1 week of actual time = 1 week of game time"
right 1:1 timing. But also:
"Dungeon Expedition = 1 week"
I always wondered why it's stated lke that. The answer is: to facilitate weekly dungeon crawls within an ongoing 1:1 time campaign game. In between delves the adventurers need time to recuperate anyway. So that's a nice and useful abstraction.
Finally:
"Wilderness Adventure = 1 move = 1 day"
Incidentally 6 days of travelling plus 1 day of rest seems to be about what can be played out in one session, given there are maybe 2-4 significant encounters along the way.
In the campaign game we do weekly turns. And I feel like time wise everything seems to just fall into place neatly. Smart rules.

@wandererbill With all those castles in the wilderness and the players haven't been corralled/forced/lured into jousting?!?! :D

@chgowiz up until now there is only one castle led by a fighting man. And he hasn't had many visitors yet. All the other places are "villages" at least rules wise. But now with the map expanded it should only be a matter of time 😁
