You have a good picture and you don't know why it's not more popular? It might be because you haven't added #AltText ! Many people won't interact with images that are missing alt text, even if it's buried in the replies. Boosts are what give you visibility, you want those!

We're getting lots of newcomers on different platforms like #Mastodon and #Pixelfed so boost this to make sure everyone adds text!

If you must, ask for help using #AltText4You and someone will reply with a suggestion. However, your best bet is to also add it to your original post (credit the author of the #alttext 😉)

There are even some bots that can do some work for you but make sure to double check their answers. I don't have one in mind but I'm sure someone will comment the right answer below 👇

@moxxi #Alt4Me is the call for someone to add it, #Alt4You is the giving of alt text. Thank you for all the lovely pictures and videos, for the alt text on them, and for asking people to make the Fediverse more inclusive.

@moxxi tried it, no "enter" button, seems bugged. Alt text does not save, can only abort edit.

@Nichtidentisches ah, you're using Mastodon for Android to post the image, correct? You're right, the interface is a bit counterintuitive when adding #AltText . There's no "ok" or "save" button. You have to tap the back arrow and it'll save the alt text. I was confused at first too. Try it out and if it still doesn't work, perhaps give a heads up to @Mastodon

@alttexthalloffame @RepresentativeSample oh yeah, alt4me and alt4you are 2 different things but they work hand in hand! Thanks for the precision!

I was doing this in a cheerful way but WOW the last few days have brought the grumpy people out of their basement! I had never realized how angry some people are that #AltText are a thing and, on the other side, how violently people respond to missing alt texts! I'm just trying to be nice to blind people who would like to understand visual jokes 😭

Many thanks to you and other folks who add #AltText descriptions for their images ❤️

My vision's okay but I enjoy reading image descriptions! I often learn something important about why the image was posted, or some joke that I missed - e.g., maybe the image has a person or meme that I don't recognize.

And sometimes the image doesn't load due to federation or internet issues. Then text is all you have!
