Glenn Gould in slightly pedagogical mode, but inspired nonetheless, speaking on Arnold Schoenberg and his Suite for Piano op 25.
Linking to this piece as a tribute to Belmont Music Publishers who lost their Schoenberg archive in the fires at Pacific Palisades.

That's brilliant! Gould just needs to be swishing around a full rocks glass of whiskey at the beginning.
Reminds me of those film/tv lectures that Vincent Price gave in the late 50's(for Sears) on modern art. He was quite the aesthete.

Amusing, isn't it, how he quotes Schoenberg's claim "[Wagner] will ensure the supermacy of German Musik for another hundred years" in perfect Dr Strangelove intonation.
Lovingly critical observations, all over the talk. How Schoenberg's notion of retrograde inversion is "rather like a fly walking on the ceiling, backwards".
"Schoenberg's Germanic mind demanded logic, and if scientific proof was unavailable, the illusion of logic would do."
Deeply emphatetic criticism.
