New: Meta has deleted trans and nonbinary Messenger themes, as well as the blog posts announcing them. Happens the same week that it has changed its rules to allow users to say LGBTQ+ people are "mentally ill"

@404mediaco and this is after people have USED those themes
ie. been lulled into making themselves known targets
and note "Machine “Gaydar”: Using Facebook Profiles to Predict Sexual
Orientation [...] created a [gaydar] model with an accuracy of 91.02%" https://cs229.stanford.edu/proj2015/019_report.pdf was a DECADE ago - the accuracy is surely improved since.

@datum @404mediaco That is an excellent point. The scariest thing about the Project 2025 agenda is that the people behind it are smart and IT-savvy and know how to use Big Data and all the info people willingly share about themselves to identify LGBTQ people, leftists, and other targets.
I learned of the danger of rogue IT reading IBM and the Holocaust 20 years ago. That book was released in summer 2001, and I think the 9/11 attacks took attention away.
Auschwitz tattoos were punch card ID's.

@datum @404mediaco Edwin Black walks through the whole process of how the Nazis automated the Holocaust and tracked their various enemies, not just the 6 million Jews, but also Communists, gay people, political enemies, Jehovah's Witnesses (refused to fight for religious reasons), etc.. They used punch cards to tabulate causes of death, how hard they worked them for slave labor, and making the trains run on time.
And the profits moved through Switzerland back to HQ, even in diplomatic pouches.

@datum @404mediaco The USA also used IBM tabulators to sift through census data to find all the Japanese Americans to send to concentration camps here during the War).
None of this shows up in computer history because the tabulators IBM leased in the 1940's predated computers, using electromechanical circuits and swappable plugboards to customize the behavior.
IBM punch cards were invented by an American, Herman Hollerith, who designed an early system for the 1870 US Census. Foreshadowing!

@jhamby @datum @404mediaco The Census? Foreshadowing what?

@slotrak @datum @404mediaco Foreshadowing that census records (and birth records, baptism records, marriage records, etc.) were used later by the Nazis to identify Jews to send to the death camps, and also by the USA to identify Japanese American citizens to send to our concentration camps after FDR's order to do so.
