I've been spending a few days searching for a "self-hosted" alternative to a rather standard service, basically something I can easily put on the shared server of the very normal web host company where I have my own domain.
But everything I can find are over-the-top versions for expert users, that need docker/node.js/composer/etc to host on your own local server in your living room.
Have we totally lost the middle-ground, something simple, just php/mysql-based that can be deployed anywhere? 😑

@elFlashor I've found some simple services that still ask to be packaged with Docker because it seems that developers prefer to distribute a Docker container rather than package builds for multiple distributions.
There's also the idea with Docker of compartmentalizing each service being better for security, but I'm not convinced on that since there are also ways to compartmentalize without Docker.

@jeanv Fair enough, but when all you have access to is FTP and php/mysql, none of that is possible, unless I'm mistaken...? (I know very little about that, so maybe I'm completely wrong 😅)
All I wanted was a simple ftp drag-and-drop thing like the wordpress install works, but I can't find anything like that 😅

@elFlashor I can't speak to what you can do while working within those constraints. There may be stuff that works perfectly fine and just isn't packaged for your situation, but this is unexplored territory for me!
