I asked this in French, I will now ask in English so most of the worldwide #Fediverse admins can hear my doubts/fears loud and clear.
Some of our instances have chosen to #Fediblock #Threads.
And what now ? How do we keep our instances safe from the beast's insatiable hunger when the major instances chose to side with #Meta ?
Meta is moving towards more "free speech", which means less moderation.
Fedipact was indeed a bold move, but is was just a step. Where's the path beyond that ?

@Nasher I host my own single-user instance so the stance here is different. I'm more afraid of the potential server load induced by federating with a very big instance, so I suspended the Threads domain name. I will keep awareness on the topic and see how it is dealt with on other instances.
Though, the recent news about the new moderation rules with so-called free speech classifies Threads as an instance to block in advance.

@Nasher
there's nothing more complicated
everyone, and i mean everyone, needs to #blockthreads
give them the truth.social treatment. let them have their little moshpit of hate completely isolated from the #fediverse

@Nasher
Defederating from instances that still communicate with Threads, I guess?

@angelastella @Nasher Why? We have moderation tools to handle it if a federated server starts posting fascist crap. OTOH, if they're reposting Neil DeGrasse Tyson, I'm not gong to worry about it. I defederated from threads.

Normie here and there are accounts I enjoy following a lot like @karaswisher and @profgalloway and yet I ALSO fully support chipping Threads off the iceberg and will miss them in the fediverse but we're in the existential fight now. We all have to choose sides. Which is crazy but here we are.

@Nasher Not knowing the tech background, I wonder if there is a way for an instance to block at the post or even comment level. I'm imagining an instance allowing all Mastodon posts to appear on its users' feed, but blocking anything that came via Threads.

@Nasher Maybe blocking meta.com as well?

@Nasher Is blocking everything and everyone really the answer?
I don't have the right answer to any of this, but somehow I don't think we can solve everything by simply blocking stuff.
