The housing corporation on the campus of @utwente is planning to replace all locks of ~2500 students living there with digital locks, that you can only unlock with your phone (via NFC).

Some students are very concerned about these plans, so I just went to the UT to talk with @Brian , one of the concerned students.

I'm very curious for replies with privacy / ethics arguments around these digital locks.

Thanks @xot , @mnagenborg , @downey , @stf , @zeno4ever , @egonw and others for your input! The upcoming week there will be a discussion with the residents where I will contribute with some information, including the visions and risks mentioned here. But it's also a fact that this system is running in other places already for some time, and it's planned to get introduced soon, so the question is if enough residents are really planning to do something with it.

Vanavond stel ik hier vragen over in de gemeenteraad. Veel studenten willen dit niet. Volt Enschede en veel van mijn collega's in de gemeenteraad ook niet.

Update: Yesterday, the motion "Privacy starts at your own house" was approved in the city council of #Enschede!
