If you are currently (or have previously been) using VMware vSphere as your on-premises virtualisation platform (aka "private cloud"), how do (or did) you expose your vCenter Server API endpoints?

For clarity: if access to your API endpoints is/was limited by firewall rules to certain stable source IP addresses but the downstream services living at those addresses did not require a VPN to connect, then that counts as "accessible from the public internet". Even if this was true for only one such downstream service, and all others have/had to use a VPN.
