Would it be legal to use this set of ISBNs on Toolforge/Wikidata? Not sure how they got it, but IIRC IDs and names are not copyrightable?

As with all copyright "is it legal" questions, the answer is probably "no" because shareholder value...

@nemobis

Probably, though Anna won't mind, and the source databases have been amalgamated so maybe dB copyright doesn't apply?

@magnusmanske Maybe. If Anna's DB is "original enough" (in DB rights sense, which is not the same as copyright law threshold of originality) then Anna would own DB rights on it. I imagine at some point ISBNdb https://isbndb.com/blog/isbn-lookup/ or someone else will come forward and claim actually Anna's DB is theirs, whether true or not?

@raffaele Dammit, we can never have nice things like your repo. :(

@raffaele BTW I don't remember what your repository contained but the DMCA notice is obviously bogus. There's no international copyright on a list of titles and ISBN codes. A DMCA counternotice ought to succeed, but better leave that task to someone with deeper pockets residing in the USA.

@nemobis It was just a stupid script to load the json dump into SQLite https://gist.github.com/atomotic/983feb36dc6c9e03c0ee9a0c432c7420

no data was saved into the repo, just a link to annas-archive torrent

@raffaele Right, so it's one of those supposed "contributory infringement" notices. Very sketchy, but unfortunately so common I wouldn't bet on a counternotice to suffice.

@magnusmanske I am pretty sure this would be fine to use - it's not a selective list, it's like a phone directory, which is not subject to copyright.
