I’d like to send a special “fuck you buddy” to all the boomers that told me “oh you’ll get more conservative as you get older, once you get some money”

I don’t know what world those people live in, but every day since probably 1989 everything I have seen in the world has only convinced me more and more that capitalism is a disease that is destroying lives and the planet.

@cobweb they don't realize they're saying "money made me an asshole and I can't fathom others behaving differently than me"

@RadicalEdward @cobweb there's something to be said for caring a lot more about security and tradition when you have kids and a mortgage vs when you're young and can get away with crazy stuff with no consequences, but yeah it doesn't need to make you cold hearted and selfish. Scarcity mindset

@wilbr @RadicalEdward @cobweb in 2025, if you have kids, you should be a radical fighting for them to have a livable future.

@szakib @RadicalEdward @cobweb for sure, the conservative version of that is "making them nepo baby landlords / slavers" so I agree and the left/right divide is hugely about what people think that means. Humans are really bad at accurately assessing future risk, so if you rank an abstract climate change lower than a tangible "owns a lot of land" your politics is gonna swing hugely.

Hopefully we can have an abundance mindset even in terms of scarcity and danger, but that's hard!

@wilbr @szakib @RadicalEdward @cobweb

I've long held what really divides liberals from conservatives is the definition of family. For me 'family' means 'all of us'. For right wing types, family means 'people I can influence'

I was disowned by conservatives because I wouldn't repress my identity and be a good little bootlick. My parents were more concerned with their standing in the church and how it would affect them than their child's wellbeing.

@szakib @wilbr @RadicalEdward @cobweb yeah, having kids would’ve made me more radical, especially regarding climate change, but other things as well.

@szakib

As someone without kids, I'm just sitting here waiting for all those folks to give a fuck.
