New tech day! Just received my #JetKVM which I backed on Kickstarter a while ago.

@rodti what does it do? Not come across a KVM before

@ruari A KVM is traditionally used for plugging in a keyboard, display and mouse to multiple machines, so if you had a couple of desktop PCs you could control them both with one set of peripherals. This one is more for remote access, so it shows an IP address on its screen, and you can browse to that to control the computer remotely. I’m going to use it for my home server which is tucked away in a cupboard with no room for peripherals!

@rodti that sounds so incredibly useful!

@rodti Those look so neat. And cheaper than buying a licence for most iLO-type things for "proper" servers. Wild.

@semanticist And slightly less hacky than the BliKVM I had rattling around in there!

@rodti My recent hacky 'KVM' for building a refurb-desktop-turned-server was a keyboard+trackpad combo with a wireless dongle, and an HDMI cable plugged into a USB video capture dongle plugged into my Mac and pretending to be a camera.
Surprisingly, it actually worked quite well!

@semanticist So you were basically live-streaming your server 😎

@rodti I think that's basically how the early DIY-remote-KVM builds worked for importing the server video output!
