A friend just brought to my attention the following odd image by Louis le Breton, 1863, from the book "Dictionnaire infernal", which I must clearly check out in greater detail. I also want to know why all the trumpets.

I thought it might amuse you as well.

CW for eye contact with unicorn-headed reclining Grand Duke of hell, chilling on a trumpet pile.

So if I'm reading this correctly, Amduscias is the Grand Duke of hell, and he'll give you a concert if you command him to. Also, he controls 29 legions (presumably of hell), and trees bend towards his voice.

The brevity of the description reminds me of a dating profile, which I find even funnier!

Also, the tree thing must be inconvenient.

In French:

"Amduscias, grand-duc aux enfers. Il a la form d'une licorne; mais lorsqu'il est évoqué, il se montre sous une figure humaine. Il donne des concerts, si on lui commande; on entend alors, sans rien voir, le son des trompettes et des autres instruments de musique. Les arbres s'inclinent à sa voix. Il commande vingt-neuf légions."
