really, why is there no new mail when Outlook tells me in the task bar that there is? ...man, why is all this Microsoft cruft so damn shoddy? And how do we expect developers to step up when some of them know nothing better than the mess that is Microsoft's software? Mediocrity begets mediocrity. This really makes me sad as developer and someone who is into UX

@kwramm In 2020 I got myself a powerful gaming system. First Windows computer I owned in almost 20 years at that point. Gave it a fair shot (over one year) as my main dev machine with WSL2. That part was actually kinda ok, because I was in a Linux env. But the Windows around it is just disturbingly bad and IMO got worse again with W11.

@citizen428 I like Win11 a little bit better because it has better visual separation of windows (drop shadows, borders, etc. work much better). In Win10 I regularly keep clicking outside of windows on other stuff (yeah, my eyes are crap). The fact that you can have grey windows without border or shadow on top of other grey windows is just ridiculous.

(also hats off to all the asshats who re-invent the GUI in their Electron apps.. which is almost everyone these days, including MS)

@kwramm Font rendering on Windows is still worst in class. There's MacType (https://github.com/snowie2000/mactype) but IMO that's still subpar. Also, so many different settings dialogs from various generations of Windows. Why are they all still there? And now they are trying to shove Copilot into everything on top of that.

@citizen428 hah. yeah the font rendering.. another pet peeve. Unfortunately the settings on MacOS, too, have regressed imho, but at least it's still all in one place
