Having slept on it, I've suspended my sponsorship of #Mastodon on Patreon until mastodon.social and mastodon.online defederate from #Threads. I still believe in paying for the development of Mastodon, but the sponsorship page specifically lists that it's also used to pay or the infrastructure of those sites. Having .social federated to Threads is providing value, no matter how small, to #Meta, and I don't want any portion of my money (again no matter how small) going towards that.

This probably should have happened as soon as threads came out, today's news isn't making Meta meaningfully worse, because it was already a cesspool, but the best time was years ago, the seconds best time is... Etc etc.

@iMeddles Meta literally used fediverse 'interoperability' to satisfy a requirement Threads had to meet before being allowed access to the EU market.
TBH, I think that is the fediverse's major accomplishment so far. That and enabling the existence of Truth . social.
