If you're anywhere near the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, my thoughts are with you. Thousands are fleeing the fire, bulldozers are pushing abandoned cars off the road, and the winds are supposed to increase tonight.
Global warming means fire season is all year round, here in California.
Does anyone know if the Getty Villa Museum has caught fire? The SF Chronicle says it has, but other sources just say the grounds are on fire. I only care because it has 125,000 artifacts, many from ancient Greece and Rome.

Getty is burning according to radio reports.
Edit.
There are further reports that the building is NOT burning.

Seems — for the moment at least — that it is the grounds and not the villa.
Such a shame and tragedy for all of those in harm's way.

@johncarlosbaez does anybody in the #HamRadio crowd have awareness of the state of the Getty Villa Museum?

@stu - I read:
Some trees and vegetation near the Getty Villa have burned, a spokeswoman said. But she reiterated to The New York Times that, as of about 5:20 p.m. local time, no structures were on fire.
In a statement, she said that staff members and the museum’s collection remained safe, and that the museum had undertaken “extensive efforts to clear brush from the surrounding area. She added that there was “water storage on-site” and that “irrigation was immediately deployed throughout the grounds Tuesday morning.”

This is amazing. (both that they are bulldozing cars and that people would abandon their car right there in the middle of the road).
I can't even imagine what they are going to tell their insurance company. I'm also a bit morbidly curious about what the salvage rights are here. If I went up there and started taking away cars with a flat bed tow truck to "help out" could I keep them? (probably not) But wow.

It's not just Palisades - the Eastern half of Pasadena is currently either in evacuation warning (down south) or currently being evacuated. Jet Propulsion Lab declared tomorrow mandatory telework day. 3600 people are without power.
I've lived in Pasadena since 2001, I've never seen fire move so fast...

@SvenGeier - stay safe! You might want to get the Watch Duty app, which has notifications and maps of fires in California. Here's some info about it:

@johncarlosbaez I visited it a few years ago and it was an incredible museum so I hope it survives. I've also got some family in Santa Monica that I haven't heard from yet so I hope they're okay!

@JadeMasterMath - Santa Monica proper still seems okay. There's a useful new fire map app for California called Duty Watch.
I hope you're doing great....
