@grammargirl I have a sentence where I'm not sure what to do. I’m wondering if you could help.
You’re probably asking yourself “Who is this guy?”.
Is this syntax correct? I feel like the question in the quotes is separate, which is why I put the ? inside them. So I'm using the period to end the initial idea.
But I'm wondering if the question mark should be outside the double quotes to end the entire idea. Like so:
You’re probably asking yourself “Who is this guy”?
Both look wrong to me.

@awoodsnet Here's how to write it:
You're probably asking yourself "Who is this guy?"
The question marks serves to end the sentence, so you don't need an extra period.
The question mark goes outside the closing quotation mark if the whole sentence is a question and inside if only the part inside quotation marks is a question.

@grammargirl Thank you!
That makes sense. My programmer brain didn’t want to let the question mark end the sentence if it was inside the quotes 😂
