Very insightful thoughts in this article.
There are high expectations of what politics can do, while there is an underestimation of the danger of authoritarianism. Not voting can therefore be the result of disappointment and looking away from the consequences if a would-be dictator wins.
In the US this seems to be the case during the last elections. Trump did not win but Harris lost, so to speak.
But there remain more questions than answers.
