uh maybe I just had an idea about why my art is what it is. some context: a sentence that's been stuck in my head forever goes like "make the art/music/literature/... you want to see/hear/read/...", and I always wondered how I could find out, what that even is. and now I think maybe I didn't need to know, I'm doing it already anyway. this may need some more explanation. next toot!

I am often amused or entertained or even touched by things that later turn out to be problematic; things that seem innocent and cute and kind of random but just aren't. they turn out to be made with an agenda I don't agree with at all. they may be racist, sexist, anti-queer, whatever, I just don't catch it. so, I think, I'm making what I think of as "innocent" art. I may be mistaken, maybe I'm not the right guy to make such art, but I think my own need for such art drives my style.

some examples: helge schneider, moss and richmond from the IT crowd, lots and lots of memes, the dudebro-edgelord "cute" humor of some electronic music genres (IDM/breakcore) ... I guess in short I often get disappointed when I can no longer ignore the politics of some people or groups or subculture or whatever. I hope I don't get disappointed by myself in this way someday.

oh or maybe, also, sometimes I pick up on the problematic stuff but mistake it, because of it's cute shape, for satire, when it actually is made to reinforce the shitty shit it reproduces. this could be some kind of self-protective coping thing on my part. or a general thing that many people do to not have to let go of their favourite art stuff.

finally (I think) one problem that emerges from this need to see "innocent art" is that it makes me worry about my art being inherently meaningless because I do not confront any "real" issues through it. I wouldn't know how tbh. whenever I try to be intentional about my art, the result is awkward and clumsy and I feel bad about it.

@posiputt I think that all art is political

@posiputt "it makes me worry about my art being inherently meaningless because I do not confront any "real" issues through it." <- if that was the case many great artists throughout history would be deemed meaningless. Your art doesn't have to intentionally and explicitly adress a real-life issue to be political.

The way I see your art, it conveys values of openness, tolerance, creativity, joy and even love, and that's part of why I like it so much.

@FelisCatus Exactly this! Thanks for putting this so nicely into words.

@posiputt Your art is (at least to me) a celebration of some beautiful weirdness in life in an absolutely positive way. Therefore it can't be seen apolitical as this contains some core values already, I think.

@posiputt Art that doesn't address contemporary problems / issues isn't meaningless as art (to me) is human expression. Not sure how familiar you are with art movements, but impressionism to me is a good example of "innocent art". I don't have specific pieces in mind but I feel like impressionism captures moments similar to photographs.

Apologies for the vague reply (I find it hard to explain), but I don't think there's anything wrong with making "innocent" art.

@posiputt No art is meaningless when made by a human. It gains meaning in being a distillation of you. the person you are at the time of making.

@posiputt your art is delightful and makes my day better because its so unburdened by taking itself so seriously. it's silly and playful and we are all deprived of that in our lives rn with how the world is going. art doesn't have to be political. yours just exists as it is without anything....weighing it down? It's like a passing thought floating by given shape and whimsy

anyway, it makes me forget the hellhole the world is when I see it so thank u

I also get to learn language stuff which rules
