Today I shut down my TrueNAS CORE NAS, swapped the disks and it's now running #FreeBSD 14.2 with all services in bastille jails.
There are still a few things I need to document or set up (e.g. zfs replication, monitoring, firewall rules), but all in all it is up and running. 😎

@subnetspider I’m considering doing the same…. I switched to TrueNAS from OmniOS/Napp-it a few years back and have been pretty happy. I’m still a little attached to having a browser UI for quick admin tasks and “what’s going on today” peeks. Have you put anything besides CLI in place?
(tbc I’m more than comfortable with CLI; I just appreciate the convenience of the browser sometimes.)

@curtosis No, the server is only managed through ssh, either manually or with ansible.
Once everything is set up, there isn't a lot to do, so I don't have a graphical interface installed.

@subnetspider Yah, it mostly just runs. I do like being able to take a quick look and see a drive is failing 😬 or I forgot to restart one of the jails 🙄 but I could probably do that with a little monitoring magic.

@curtosis Absolutely, I wouldn't want to use something critical as storage without proper monitoring in place either.
Luckily there are solutions, so I've set up smartctl with E-Mail notifications using this guide: https://bsdbox.de/en/artikel/tipps/freebsd-smart#smartmontools 👍
