I might have to stop listing my Matrix contact publicly. The main Matrix.org instance randomly not receiving messages might be the last straw?
Matrix has always had encryption issues, but I didn't treat Matrix as an encrypted messenger. I used it for chat rooms.
Recently it's gotten so much less reliable. I didn't have these problems in the past.
The app is getting less stable, and I'm fine using it when it works, but if I can't reliably send messages, then..

Matrix didn't use to have these problems - not to this degree. I don't know what the fuck the main instance is doing, but the one job of a messenger is to fucking deliver messages.
I even look the other way over "can't decrypt" errors, because I can just turn off encryption.
But the main flagship instance should not ever be dropping messages. That should never be a thing.

I guess what I'm going to do is add a note to my Matrix contact that says "specifically join the bark.lgbt server if you want to message me" - because if somepony joins the main Matrix instance they might think I'm ghosting them when in fact Matrix is spending multiple days throwing messages into the void.
This software is funded by governments. Mastodon doesn't have these problems. Yes, defederation is a pain, but it's not this bad.

I am willing to tolerate a lot of bullshit to use an open messenger.
I also am not on Telegram or Discord. If you're losing me as a proponent, you are doing something wrong.

Okay, rant aside, it's fine, it's not like I'm leaving Matrix, but I am going to need to put a warning next to it that it might not work.
This is frustrating because I carried on multi-day conversation with somepony, who then had to contact me elsewhere and say "hey, did you not see my messages or is something wrong with Matrix?"
And.. I just finished encouraging critters to use other services than Telegram/Discord. And now I kind of feel bad about it.

Like.. I know I'm over-simplifying. I get it. I understand that what Signal and Matrix are doing is hard.
But it does feel pretty bad to have somepony who was really nice go very far out of their way to help accommodate me, and then the experience they had was that they had to wonder if I was ghosting them.
That's their reward for taking the time to read my notes and figure out what platforms I'm on, they get ghosted because Matrix doesn't work.

There are many open platforms and software sources where using them isn't just healthier, it's a better experience than the closed platforms.
We are not there with messaging.
