@stevendbrewer Yes! Forts of this era have the same feel... like Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas.
It is unusual to find massive brick structures in San Francisco. While brick holds up well vertically, it doesn't do well with horizontal forces during earthquakes. Being a lover of brick, I enjoy cities like Boston very much.

@stevendbrewer Every now and then I look at real estate listings for Back Bay. Flats with exposed brick... absolutely irresistible. And with prices comparable to San Francisco, I have often thought about moving there. But my husband grew up in the south and loves warm weather, so while I don't mind bundling up, Boston would not be suitable for him. I respect that.
