Bad news... I can confirm that the local grey squirrel has developed a tolerance for the spicy bird seed I've been using. Because of the placement and type of feeder, that was the only reasonable line of defense that I had.
I'm hoping that the seed is still spicy enough to make the squirrel eat slowly, which will reduce the losses. I know this is a futile battle—squirrels are very intelligent after all—so if I can reach a compromise with them I'll be satisfied.
