Recently got a new Kobo Clara Colour a few days ago and I've been enjoying my first dedicated e-reader so far! I've got a huge backlog of comics and e-books, so it made a lot of sense to go for a colour E-Ink screen. The colours are somewhat muted like what newspaper comics look, but I actually like that since I used to read those all the time!
Apparently these Kobo e-readers run Linux, so I'm interested in figuring out how this device can be extended further.

It's almost criminal how good the airplane music on Icelandair is. They're even playing electronica! Just for that alone, it's immediately the #1 airline music for me (so far).

Salut, mes amis!
What places in Paris would people here suggest going to? In particular, for those interested in culture and technology (old and new). Well, besides the Louvre that is.
Also while we're at it, give your food recommendations!
The high-class French food is nice and all; yes, I'll try escargot but not frog legs. But I'm more interested in street food and just generally towards the cheaper end of the food spectrum. Not just for financial reasons, but I think street food in particular shows the culture of a people very well.

After hearing some concerning developments surrounding Pixelfed, its main instance, and main developer, I'm going to stop using it for the meantime. Until there's a similar viable alternative, the photo posts are returning here. Going to boost the posts from that Pixelfed account too, so that folks don't need to go anywhere else to see them

I'd know that mouse cursor anywhere! Unless Fly Chicken just really likes the old Breeze Dark cursor theme to use it in another environment, it seems like they're using KDE Plasma for their ordering kiosks!

Increasingly radicalising every day I'm in a Scandinavian country thanks to working trains, walkable cities, and evidently more progressive societies than where I'm from. 🥰

Random phone thoughts before going to bed:
It'd be great if there was an open-source phone based on Linux or an RTOS with an E-Ink screen, with a featureset similar to Symbian S60 or BlackBerry OS (without an app store). However, it would also have OSM maps, KDE Connect integration, and a Matrix client.
Maybe have a small configurable knob, switch, or something IDK. Possibly rim or edge lighting for notifications or system status, a la Blinkenlights.

One pandemic and a nearly Kafkaesque series of processes later, I got my months-overdue diploma. This means that I've finally graduated in full! 🎓
Will prolly start looking for a job sometime early next year, after an extended family trip.

On a related note, what does Mozilla require for a port or package to be allowed usage of the Firefox brand?

An experimental port of Firefox Iceweasel is now available on HaikuDepot! So far, most sites are working fine. YouTube video playback is fine and Discord just works, however the web browser does occasionally take itself down. Still rather usable, though! If @ActionRetro thought that Haiku was ready for daily driving with Falkon (see first screenshot), then rebranded Firefox surely has to make it even more viable by those standards!
It should be noted though that just like with Falkon, some crash dialogs can be ignored (drag them to another workspace) and the web browser can still be used.

Salut!
Been learning French for a couple months now via Duolingo for a trip next year, but it feels like I should find other ways to learn the language now.
So, got any French media to recommend for learning the language with?

Been helping with cleaning out a bodega and I've finally stumbled upon old hardware that I could take with me!
First up is an old IBM ThinkCentre with a Pentium 4, which only needed a blower and a wipe down before it looked ready for another run. Going to see if there are any PSU cables here to power it up with.
It came with a floppy disk too! There's rust on the back side, but not to a concerning extent yet. Would like some advice for dealing with that, though.

TFW you accidentally buy an HDR monitor
The packaging never mentions HDR anywhere! It does say that the display has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, which in hindsight might be the closest thing to saying that it has HDR?
In any case, jumping from 75 to 165 Hz might've already ruined 60 Hz displays for me. Also a monitor with a DP port this time, to avoid HDMI chicanery on AMD GPUs in Linux. Looking forward to testing out FreeSync, HDR, and other stuff that was legally held back on Linux by the HDMI Forum!

Been messing around with my Watchy and one of the firmwares for it (InkWatchy) has a Vault, which is for viewing images behind a passcode. So, I decided to make some art tailored specifically for the 200x200 E-Ink screen.
While doing this, a thought came in:
Bonus credits for anyone who recognises the other two characters!

The Watchy arrived today, significantly earlier than the ETA range that was provided!
Rather glad with spending a bit more to get it with a metal case, since it makes the watch feel a bit more premium; it might even be anodised aluminium? I know that E-Ink is renowned for crisp text, but I'm still surprised by how readable the tiniest text is on the watchface it came with (Starfield) without squinting. Can't wait to explore it further, try out various firmwares for it, and perhaps even create watchfaces for it!
