anyone know a way to watch youtube ad-free on a shitty "smart" TV?

whether that means (somehow) adblocking in the YouTube TV Client or using something that's a little more TV-Friendly in a browser is fine by me

note this is NOT an Android TV device, it's running some presumably proprietary OS by Hisense, it does however feature a (seemingly chromium-based) browser on-board

This is also not my television so I'd rather skip installing custom firmware altogether.

So far I have tried piped and invidious, but with how often they get blocked it's becoming tedious, and their UI is not exactly made to be remote-controlled

@cyrus I think most people got around this by blocking at the network level with something like a https://pi-hole.net/

@cyrus @luna

Scrounge an old Chromebook. You might find one free somewhere.

(I have one if you're in San Diego.)

@cyrus I've had SOME luck using VLC + the Chromecast function on the TV to play things.

A bit more using Vivaldi + uBlock Origin + Sponsorblock

Some using yt-dlp to download them send that file to the TV with VLC

But honestly, I've mostly given up and moved to an HDMI cable. Do you happen to know how much one of those would cost you? It's three holidays so if it is cheap enough I could probably donate you that much as I get the frustration
