Toot

Still have a big backlog of #3dPrinting projects that need finishing. Two of those are a figurine of Jane Doe from #ZenlessZoneZero and of Momo Ayase from #Dandadan. At least both of them are primed now. #figurines

@Spark as you do a lot of priming and finishing and therefore probably have a lot of experience, did you ever do a direct comparison of unfinished / unprimed / finished? I hesitate to bother with finishing at all (except for paint), then again 3D printed parts usually make the least parts of my projects.

@wildrikku Well, I did have the comparison from raw print to finished piece. Most of it has to do with the layer lines and how to get riding them for a smooth surface. How much work it is has also to do with the shape. If you have spherical shapes or curves those layer lines can be quite ugly. For smaller parts it doesn’t have to be much post processing. Just a little bit of filler-primer and paint can do it. Depends where the focus will be on the finished piece.

@wildrikku For example the R2-D2 dome. Without sanding and putty and more sanding it would have seams and layer lines all across. And since it will be the main focus of the droid, I want it to be as smooth as possible.

@Spark I see. Thanks a lot! I think the main reason why I thought of sanding as not that important is that I never printed larger parts, so I was like, when I sand this, it will take forever and do nothing but kill all the tiny details. I'll remember your advice when I print something larger than a couple cm :)
