Good church service at my wife's home church except for the part of where the fill-in Pastor didn't understand Presbyterians don't ever do altar calls. I always found them creepy in the Methodist church I was raised in and it's very icky in the Baptists churches I've visited.
It's one thing when someone studies to be confirmed and a willing participant, a whole other thing when there's disregarding of the mutual consent without pressure part.

I can totally understand that reaction. Some people live from confession to confession, from altar call to altar call. They look for extraordinary spiritual moments to transcend a life they don't know how to manage. I've definitely been there. Of you brought me to an altar call today, I wouldn't know what to do with it. That's just not my answer.
Personally, I get an ick moment in some churches where they do this kind of communal confession of sin in every liturgy.
I'm like, what if I walked in here with a clean conscience (Acts 23:1)? What if I already dealt with my issues and I'm just having a wonderful day in the Lord's grace (Colossians 2:6-7)? What if I don't see myself as a constant failure in sin, but as one learning righteousness (Matthew 5:48)?
It's... an odd emphasis, to me.
