Its been a long time since I've tried any of the openSUSE variations. This particular one - Aeon - uses an immutable core OS layer in combination with user-installed applications courtesy of flatpak + distrobox.
An interesting talk:

@dwarmstrong Yeah, I think most of the major distros now have atomic distros of some kind.
I'm really enjoying Fedora's take on it, but I love me some SUSE too.

@srfaudio Would that be Silverblue?
I've never tried an immutable/atomic distro before and just doing some post-Christmas reading up on it. Just downloaded the Aeon installer and will give it a go tomorrow!

@dwarmstrong @srfaudio indeed, #silverblue for #gnome and #kinoite for #kde.
Unlike the btrfs rollback approach of opensuse, #Fedora resets the system with each update to prevent rot over time.

I second Fedora's approach because it reuses OCI/Docker images and so we can use CI/CD and other tools like #uBlue is doing to build #Bazzite Bluefin and Aurora.
And in the future there will be this ComposeFS for storage that allow deduplication on a file basis like Git and OSTree but between host image and Podman images. And hopefully Flatpak too fingers crossed

@alxlg @dwarmstrong I'm just excited about the fact that when we started talking about Aurora-dx vs. Bazzite, I was actually able to just rebase the OS in basically real time, and try it out, and it didn't change a thing about my home folder or installed apps...this is the future.
OS's as cattle, not pets. The only pet is your data and preferences.

@srfaudio @alxlg That is very cool! Its all new to me. I will have to learn more about it.

Same here, I rebased from Fedora Kinoite 39, to Aurora DX stable (40), then latest (41) and finally Aurora DX + Nvidia.
About cattle vs pet, I think there is more than ephemerality here, it's about making systems more "reprovisionable": https://blog.verbum.org/2020/08/22/immutable-→-reprovisionable-anti-hysteresis/
