If I could have only one generally trivial wish, one which must benefit the entire world, but which isn't exactly a life or death concern, it would be...

To remove every Realtek device ever made and replace them with decent devices from Intel, Broadcom (I know, yes yes, still better than RT), Mellanox, etc

Minor heads up to the youth.. don't blame your OS or computer for being unstable or buggy if there's any RT device present in the system. Ditch that shite and move on with life.

@winterschon My screens contain RT ethernet cards so far that has not been an issue for me.

I had more issues with bad Mediatek oder Western Digital hardware. E.g. WD SSD's were 4k mode just results in dataloss and the SSD shutting down while the OS scrambles to understand why it stops to respond.

This bug is present in all DRAM-less Western Digital SSD's including those which are still sold.

@winterschon so many AMD motherboards have on-board RT Ethernet. I always have issues with them (they crap out and go dark at the worst times). I always pony-up and buy dedicated PCI ethernet cards now.

@kta @winterschon Good idea.

One reason why Iโ€™m going back to Micro-ATX after years of Mini-ITX is so I can get some extra PCIe slots back for things like proper NICs (and a discrete sound card would be lovely too).

@winterschon having gone through a mysterious inexplicable wifi-blows-up-without-a-trace incident on NetBSD recently, I can only agree with this toot.
