I don’t know what’s going on with the missing video poster image, but the other two sloppy-looking truncation mistakes would be solved simply by making the minimum width of the window slightly larger.

@gruber I’m not sure if there’s a good mechanism to ensure it doesn’t truncate because users can change their font size preferences.

@gruber Ok here.

@gruber I’m sooo tired of the “auto truncating eclipses” move. If the words are unnecessary then don’t include them, otherwise show them. 🤦🏾♀️

@dahukanna Exactly!

@gruber Most likely, Apple’s designers never stopped to think about the user who doesn’t run App Store taking up their entire MacBook screen. Seventeen years of iPhone-influenced user behavior and developer design and practice, I guess.

@gruber I don’t think I can agree with the minimum window size approach. I use one monitor in a vertical orientation and am really annoyed when windows can’t be adjusted to fit.
It is sad to see this from Apple, though. Making the images smaller wouldn’t be difficult, would it? :kare_sad:

@iantompkins If you play with that window, you’ll see that the minimum width wouldn’t have to widen much from the current minimum to accommodate the content.

@gruber It’s true, you’re right. However, that proposed new minimum is just a few pixels away from being too wide for my vertical 24” monitor. If my screen was any smaller—or if my accessibility settings included larger text for vision impairment—it simply wouldn’t fit. That seems silly to me when they could just shrink the image by a similar amount, or make it break above or below the text.
