Straights aren't pairing off like they used to, and the press wants to blame women — for daring to have standards.

I argue that it's MAGA that broke heterosexuality. They make it seem like hell. Of course more women are taking a pass.

@AmandaMarcotte I'm concerned that fomenting gender based divisions undermines class solidarity on the economic front. I'd like to think more women would choose to be monogamous and have children in a more secure and economically just world but I don't know if that would be the case or not.

@DimensionWalker @AmandaMarcotte Wait. You want women to continue doing free (or lower-paid) labor in a more economically just world? How does that work?

Gender justice IS economic justice.

@janisf @AmandaMarcotte Janis, it can work for some people because money isn't a true measure of human value. In many cases it can be a tool of deception and oppression. I did a few years of domestic service myself in the middle of my engineering career and it was the best. Having said all that, my original point about monogamy and parenting said nothing about unpaid labor. Presumably, an economically just world would have affordable childcare.

@DimensionWalker @AmandaMarcotte I have yet to see an economic model where enough people are willing to take a low enough wage or high-enough taxes to make US healthcare work. You want to add childcare to that? Whether dollars are attached or not, the math of labor distribution has to work. What we're discovering is our silent mothers turning the world, now that women are not-so-quiet quitting.

Show me a man who's willing to work in childcare for minimum wage. Don't worry, I'll wait.

@janisf @AmandaMarcotte the domestic service I mentioned before was primarily childcare. And as long as healthcare and childcare are for-profit, there will never be enough hours or dollars to satisfy the greed of the shareholders. That was kind of my point. Tweaking the gender balance of paid vs. unpaid labor won't save any of us when every aspect of our lives is being monetized and exploited.

@DimensionWalker @janisf @AmandaMarcotte

Of course, women will receive justice when everyone achieves full communism. No counterrevolutionary whining from the wings, please.

@skry If gender parity within the working class is the goal, I think that will be achieved and surpassed soon. Working class men have been on a dramatic downhill slide for some time. You will win by default, but it will be a Pyrrhic victory because we'll all be worse off than we were decades ago.
