Anyone seen any compact switches? I'd like to squeeze 3x8 ports (unmanaged, ideally with isolation option) into 1U.

How can this: https://eu.store.ui.com/eu/en/products/usw-flex-mini be possible, so thin, managed (i.e. smarts/software built-in) at this price level, but can't have this: https://www.cudy.com/de-de/products/fs1010p-2-0 be 5cm narrower 😭

@dominykas tl;dr: Heat management.

The first option is low power and outsources all of the power conversion to USB-C or PoE, so tiny and small with a plastic case is no problem.

The second switch runs on AC and delivers PoE, so it has a much higher power draw (up to 30W per port), so even the small 6 port version is basically an old fashioned light bulb. You need all that extra air space and a metal case and fan so it doesn't overheat and fail / catch fire.

Not 100% sure what you're trying to do, but you / your datacenter will be pretty sad if you try and jam 3 of the second option into a 1U rack slot, too - they'll overheat each other and everything around them. Better to pick a decent 24 port switch imo.
