@jmsdnns This is awesome! Congrats!
Are you doing independent research with Penn State, attending, or teaching?

@ramsey i am joining a research project for scientific verifiability with upenn.
they all say penn instead of upenn for some reason and it's slowly becoming what i do too... 🤷♂️
before that i was a TA for several months to help get their new AI undergrad & masters programs online.
and thank you!

@jmsdnns I’ve always wanted to publish research papers.

@ramsey They seem like something special, but I'm also kind of horrified to learn how many are actually bad. I now understand why everyone cares so much about being a coauthor with established academics.
The research project is based on two points:
1.) it is overwhelming to actually audit all published research and thus our sense of truth is diminishing
2.) intentional misinformation is increasingly becoming a problem
Example of why I'm optimistic on this context https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qgrl3JSWWDE

@jmsdnns When I started publishing technical articles in the 00s, I was extremely disappointed at how informal and haphazard the whole publishing and editorial process was. I have an English degree and took classes on editing and publication, and nothing matched up to what I was taught.

@ramsey yup. i've had a few popular open source projects over the years and one of those most consistent learnings was that people will forgive just about anything if you have outstanding docs. they won't even take the project seriously if you dont.
while writing about tech is genuinely hard, i do my best to avoid using systems by anyone who isn't a good communicator. what is code, if not communication, right?
