Extremely likely that Azerbaijan Airlines flight J28243 from Baku to Grozny has been shut down by Russian air defense. Shrapnel impact clearly visible on the Embraer ERJ190 fuselage.

@cpot It wouldn't surprise me if Russia did something like that, but is that an expert analysis from somewhere or just a personal guess?
A disintegrating turbofan would throw off something very similar to shrapnel (I don't have the expertise to tell the damage patterns apart).

@david_megginson in an uncontained engine failure event due with fan blade out the fuselage is hit at the section were are the blades which is not the case here (and MH-17 were the cockpit area was hit by the Russian missile). Sometime it can hit the window along the wing like for the Southwest B737 in 2018
