@TechConnectify
The selector switch on that heater seems a little odd to me. The (less powerful) British space heaters often have three settings: one for the small element, one for the big element and one for both.
"Three power levels" seems like a nice sticker the manufacturer would want on the box.

@TechConnectify ha, I recently came across https://www.reddit.com/r/hyperebikes/comments/1hammo5/charging_your_bike_from_ac_level_2_charging/. Christmas serendipity!

@TechConnectify beep-boop, anomaly detected, resistive electric heating instead of a heat pump. What is going on?

@mishunika I will not be using this nearly enough to justify going that route, and there are other complications as well.

@TechConnectify hehe, I know, I was pulling your leg :D I imagine the investment would be at least an order of magnitude higher for even a cheaper mini split.
Btw. Here, across the pond, blue or red (16A - 32A) beefy 1-3 phase IEC 60309 sockets seem to be rather common in garages and workshops. Power tools and car charges usually come with those plugs attached from the factory.
I thought that this was an international standard, are those plugs/receptacles even a thing in the US?

@mishunika I think they show up in certain industrial applications (stage lighting comes to mind) but I don't believe they are approved for permanent installation anywhere.

@TechConnectify @mishunika I have never seen one since, but here's one I found marked for a very respectable 63 amps (also for stage lighting)

@TechConnectify I've had my EV for at least half of a year at this point and my mom is still terrified of it and thinks I need to charge it wherever I stop. I've even done >500 mile road trips in it. I have no idea what the heck I can do to make her stop thinking I'm going to burn up or get stranded somewhere 20 miles away with a 200 mile range.
Good video though, really makes me wonder what else this can be used for.

@gudenau @TechConnectify I have a similar experience with some folks. It’s bizarre how they beleive the propaganda over your own experiences

@TechConnectify "7.5kW, about $1 for the hour" that's about 10p a unit.. cries at 22p a unit

@TechConnectify I think I am going to borrow this idea for my own heater but add some brains to close the contactor only after fully plugging in and power level to the power the socket provides. Basically all the recommendations you put in the comments. With how chargers work here I can get up to 11kw of power on 16 amp triphase. (And 22kw in rare occasions)

@TechConnectify was thinking about why in germany there isn't much more "Drehstromanschlüsse" (IEC 60309 - our version of doing just another contact and having large appliances with huge power consumption - ~400V at home) in houses for such appliances
and then I remembered that we already have 240V/16A from pretty much any outlet nowadays. That's "only" 3800W, so a bit smaller than what you now have, but I'd guess its close enough for most people to just never bother looking for something more
