@vmstan @mark while it probably still has additives, it doesn’t have ethanol, where the subsidies make it cheaper.

@maique @mark while you’re correct, bear in mind that a US gallon is smaller than a European gallon. 1 US gallon = 0.833 gallons. But also, in Europe, the lowest octane of petrol (gas) is 95 with premium being 97 and up. All of the fuel in this photo is inferior in comparison.

@sdjmchattie @mark Hey hey. I wasn’t even considering a European gallon, since we don’t use it here. We do have highest octane gas, and use liters. Converting the most expensive one on the photo to our reality comes to 0.64€ per liter. The cheapest we get here is now priced at around 1.8€ per liter. That’s roughly three times the price.

@mark Nobody use this one, and the tank was refilled when the price was high. In between, they refilled the other graded ones when the price was lower as the demand is stronger.

@mark I don’t think I’ve ever seen 86. In Louisiana all I see is 87, 89, 91, 93.

@mark My understanding is that fast stations typically update their prices when they order new gas, based on those new prices. So if that one turned over slower it might not have caught up with new higher prices. Or vice versa.

@marc_v_b I’m not complaining about it being expensive. 😅 I know gas is cheap here. I’ve just never seen the lowest octane cost more than the higher ones ever in my lifetime.

@mark perhaps the owner learned that most people choose the lowest octane assuming the lowest price without even looking and make more?

Yes, but for the most part it's bio-ethanol. And don't forget that European cars are much-much more economical.
